Oustanding!!!...

this expression was among the words with which David Sear ( Biennial Chair) and Candace Hoffman ( Curator ) described the quality of work being selected and shown as the final output of this 2011 Wisconsin Biennial of Arts which had its opening reception this past Sunday.

Could not agree more. It was great!!!. Not only the amount of high quality artwork but also the way the show was put together, with a high dedication that did show in the way that every single piece seemed to fit perfectly on each one of the rooms of a place as amazing as it is the Anderson Arts Center in Kenosha. You can really tell that every single person involved in the show did the best to present Wisconsin and public from different corners with some of the best expositors of Wisconsin Art.

From my part, despite of coming home empty handed in regards of awards, I am really proud and happy of the great satisfaction of being selected to be part of this show which will be on display until August 7 at the center. Please, if you have time and can make the drive, do not hesitate on making your way down there, you WON´T be disappointed.

De lo mejor!!!...

Estas fueron algunas de las palabras con las cuales tanto David Sear ( Encargado de la Bienal) y Candace Hoffman ( Curadora ) describieron la calidad de los trabajos seleccionados y expuestos al final como parte de la Bienal de Arte de Wisconsin 2011, la cual tuvo su ceremonia de apertura este pasado Domingo.

No podría estar mas de acuerdo. Fue grandioso!!!. No solamente la cantidad de trabajos de alta calidad sino que también de la manera en la que la muestra fue armada, con una gran dedicación que se vio reflejada en cada pieza que ocupo cada espacio de manera perfecta en cada una de las habitaciones de un lugar tan asombroso como lo es el Centro Anderson para las Artes en Kenosha. Uno pudo decir realmente que cada persona involucrada en la muestra hizo lo mejor a su alcance para presentar a Wisconsin y público de diferentes esquinas con algunos de los mejores exponentes del arte en Wisconsin.

De mi parte, a pesar de haber vuelto con las manos vacías en cuanto a premios, si debo decir que volví realmente orgulloso y contento de la gran satisfacción que me produce el haber sido elegido para esta muestra que estará abierta hasta el día 7 de Agosto en el mismo centro. Por favor, si estas en la zona y podes darte una escapada no dudes en hacerte una visita, no habrá decepción.

Birds of a Different Feather./ Pájaros de una Pluma Diferente.

I just have received notification that I will be part on the show "Birds of a Different Feather" which will kick off on July 8th at the "Gallery 224" on Port Washington. My recently finished painting "View with Room and Bird" (click HERE to see it) has been accepted on it which it made my day. This show, which it is organized and curated by Jane Suddendorf (art teacher at the Port Washington High) it is an initiative to promote local arts in the Port Washington area through an event that will last the whole summer. It is a great opportunity to see great artwork around the subject of birds in a wide variety of styles by local artists like Tom Uttech, Michael Santini, Vicky Reed and Reginald Baylor among others and a great pleasure and honor to me to "share wall space" with such talents.

Recién me han notificado que formaré parte de la muestra "Pájaros de una Pluma Diferente" la cuál comenzará el dia 8 de Julio en la "Gallery 224" en Port Washington. Mi pieza recientemente terminada " Vista con Habitación y Pájaro" ( hacer click AQUI para verla) ha sido aceptada lo que me ha hecho el día. Esta muestra, la cuál es organizada y curada por Jane Suddendorf (profesora de arte en la Port Washington High), es una iniciativa orientada a promover las artes locales en el area de Port Washington a través de este evento que durará todo el verano. Es una gran oportunidad para poder ver muy buen arte con las aves como tema central en una variedad amplia de estilos bajo la creación de artistas locales como Tom Uttech, Michael Santini, Vicky Reed and Reginald Baylor entre otros y un gran placer y honor para mi el poder "compartir espacio en la pared" con tales talentos.

Acabo de terminar esta pintura, la cuál partió de aquellos días en los que sentado en la parte alta de la Playa del Buceo en Montevideo, me quedaba horas mirando hacia abajo, imaginando que la casilla de guardavidas era una especie de torre de control la cuál regulaba el tráfico aéreo de las gaviotas en busca de un almuerzo.

Ay ay ay... con razón... la cabeza mía la entiende MUY POCA gente, juas!!!

Esas casillas ya no están más, como no lo están muchas otras cosas. Igualmente debo confesar que sigo manteniendo el fetiche de creer que Claude Lelouch no filmo la famosa (y bella) escena de "Un hombre y una Mujer" en alguna playa de Calais, sino que lo hizo en un día de invierno en Malvín o Buceo.

I am really excited to find out that one of my favorite places in Wisconsin, the John Michael Kohler Arts Center is having a big exhibit with "Memory" as a subject. For what I got to see on their website, there are multiple interesting approaches to the subject by multiple artists being on display and I can´t wait to make my way over there. Maybe this coming Sunday...

The picture above, is part of my own study about memory in a series of photographs about which I had post before in this space. Two of those pieces are going to be in display at the end of June at the Anderson Art Center in Kenosha, Wisconsin during the 2011 Wisconsin Biennial of Arts.

Me puso contento saber que uno de mis lugares favoritos en todo Wisconsin, the John Michael Kohler Arts Center abrió una muestra con la "Memoria" como tema central. Por lo que pude ver en el sitio web, hay una variedad interesante en cuanto al acercamiento al tema realizado por muchos artistas que se encuentran en la muestra y no veo la hora de poder ir por ahí. Quizás este Domingo...

La fotografía mas arriba pertenece a mi propio estudio sobre la memoria en una serie sobre la cual he posteado anteriormente. Dos de esas imágenes estarán en exhibición al final de Junio en el Anderson Arts Center de la ciudad de Kenosha, Wisconsin, durante la Bienal de Arte de Wisconsin 2011.

This is an animation or better say a sequence video created during the process of making the barrel for the "Rain Barrels on Parade 2011" for which I was invited to participate by the NSAA and the Village of Grafton, Wisconsin, among other local artists. I had posted something about this project before, what you can see by clicking HERE and HERE.

The barrel, which I named "Circles of Life" was made using acrylic painting and the idea for the design comes from 2 sources which I recycled and adapt to my own concept:_1) Australian aboriginal art, which uses concentric circles as symbol for water and which also is believed to be part of the creation of life by antique and traditional beliefs. 2) The simple fact of the fascination it always created on me the simple action of watching rain drops hitting other surfaces of water.

The colors choose for the project were based on the most used colors to determine dry areas in graphics ( red, orange and yellow) as the colors that show water density ( different shades of blue).

Esta es una animación, o mejor dicho un video en secuencia creada durante el proceso de creación del barril para el "Desfile de Barrilles de LLuvia 2011" para el cuál fui invitado a participar junto a otros artistas por la Ciudad de Grafton y la NSAA. Había posteado al respecto con anterioridad, lo cuál puede ser visto haciendo click AQUI  y AQUI.

El barril, al que titule "Círculos de Vida", fue realizado usando pintura acrílica y la idea en el diseño proviene de 2 fuentes las cuales recicle para poder adaptar a mi propio concepto: 1_ La técnica usada por el arte aborigen de procedencia australiana, en la cual las fuentes de agua son representadas a través de círculos concéntricos, los cuales a su vez simbolizan fuentes de creación de vida según antiguas creencias. 2_ El simple hecho de la fascinación que siempre ha creado en mi el simple hecho de quedarme observando las gotas de lluvia al chocar contra otras superficies de agua.

Los colores usados en este proyecto provienen de los colores generalmente usados en gráficas para describir áreas secas ( rojo, naranja y amarillo) así como los colores usados para mostrar diferentes niveles de densidad de agua ( diferentes tonos de azul).

I know... all the buzz regarding May 21st have already faded like any other news that feed the hunger for sensationalism and who knows what else but I still think this one is funny.

On our way to Kenosha today, Dawn and I stopped at the Racine Art Museum to see few exhibits displayed there and while waiting for the museum to open we took a short walk around. While walking on downtown, we came across this note ( the one on the photograph) and we did get a good laugh. I hope you too.

Ya sé... todo el ruido con respecto al 21 de Mayo ya desapareció como cualquier otra noticia que incrementa el hambre por sensacionalismo y quién sabe que más pero todavía pienso que esta esta divertida.

En camino a Kenosha hoy, Dawn y yo paramos en el Museo de Arte de Racine para ver un par de muestras que allí había y mientras esperábamos a que el museo abriera tomamos una caminata corta. Mientras caminábamos en el centro nos cruzamos con esta nota ( la de la foto) y nos salió una buena risa. Espero que te haga reír también.
