It is good to find out that there is some people out there with the same type of sense of humor I like to put on some of my illustrations. It is good to know too they like it so much to take them home. Thank you "All that Pizzazz Gallery" for selling two of my pieces I had over there (the ones above) and also to whom bought them I hope you enjoy them.

Es bueno saber que hay gente por ahí con el mismo sentido de humor que me gusta poner en algunas de mis ilustraciones. Es bueno saber también que a su vez les guste lo suficiente como para llevárselas a sus casas. We all have our "fan" weakness somewhere there under our skin. As sports fans wear their favorite team/player shirt and other people get the same type of haircut they saw on their "idol", artists tend too to have their own ways of express admiration. Either imitating someone´s work, leaving littles clues in their work that pay homage to others or like in my case, or better said in this case, by making a cover in a semi-ludic way. I have to admit I "discovered" Andrew Wyeth not long ago since it was completely foreign to me. The news of his death made me look to see who he was and I found a lot that got me hooked on him. If you are thinking I am an ignorant of American art, take a second and ask yourself how many names of great uruguayan painters you know?... Anyway, today morning I got up and with Dawn´s help I made my own version of one of Andrew Wyeth´s greatest painting (one of my favorites too), Winter 1946 which I want to share here with you.

Todos tenemos nuestra debilidad de fanáticos en algún lugar bajo la piel. Así como los seguidores de deportes gustan de vestir la camiseta de su equipo/jugador favorito u otra gente adopta el mismo corte de pelo que vieron a su "ídolo" vestir,  algunos artistas tienen su propias maneras de expresar admiración, ya sea imitando el trabajo de alguien, dejando pequeñas pistas en su propia obra las cuales pagan homenaje a otros o en mi caso, o en este caso mejor dicho, haciendo un cover en una manera semi-lúdica. Debo admitir que "descubrí" Andrew Wyeth no hace mucho tiempo atrás, ya que era un artista totalmente extranjero para mí. Si alguien piensa que soy un ignorante en cuanto al arte americano, pregúntenle a alguien de aquí cuantos pintores uruguayos conocen. Como sea, las noticias de su muerte me hicieron buscar quién era y así me encontré con mucho que realmente me dejo realmente enganchado. De cualquier manera, hoy temprano con la ayuda de Dawn hice mi propia versión de una de sus grandes pinturas ( y una de mis favoritas también) titulada Winter 1946 ( Invierno 1946), la cuál comparto aquí.

I simply can´t find the right words to express the happiness and pride it did gave me this letter a few days ago. To make a long story short, the letter lets me know that my photographic essay "Las Luces de Coyotepe" ("The Lights of Coyotepe") about the former prison and fortress named Coyotepe in Nicaragua, which was awarded by the Latin Union of Paris will be exhibited at the International Documentary Film Festival of Biarritz, France during the months of September-October this year. Nothing more to say than... just being really glad of this news.

No puedo encontrar las palabras para explicar lo que sentí al recibir esta carta hace un par de días atrás. La misma me notifica de que mi ensayo fotográfico "Las Luces de Coyotepe" sobre la ex prisión y fortaleza de Coyotepe en Nicaragua, el cuál fuera galardonado por la Unión Latina de Paris, será exhibido en los meses de Setiembre y Octubre de este año durante la celebración del Festival Internacional de Cine Documental de Biarritz, Francia.

Nada mas que decir. Sin palabras.

London Calling. / Londres Llamando

I finally entered the London Street Photography Festival. The pictures entered are part of my collection of images titled


"Greetings from Alabama"

The pictures included here are part of a larger collection of images, using both film and digital formats, taken over a period of eighteen months while living in the state of Alabama.

After a friend´s request to "show him what the South looked like", I starting to create a record of the city I was living on and cities and towns I got to visit while traveling around the state. By using and photographing exclusively from a street perspective I wanted to reflect through it my own condition and point of view as an outsider portraying a place the way I saw it.

The collection of images I amounted over that period of time show different aspects of a place to which I did feel close and distant at the same time. Using humor, irony, description and even metaphorical composition in some cases; I painted my own picture of a place I tried to call home even for a brief period of time.

Finalmente envié las fotos al London Street Photography Festival. Las imágenes que presente son parte de mi colección de imágenes titulada


"Saludos desde Alabama".

Las fotografías incluidas aquí son parte de una colección de imágenes mas amplia, usando formatos digital y análogo, tomadas durante un período de 18 meses al vivir en el estado de Alabama.

Después de recibir el pedido de un amigo de que le "mostrará a que se parecía el Sur", comencé a crear un registro de la ciudad donde me encontraba viviendo y de algunos pueblos y ciudades que visité viajando a través del estado. Usando y fotografiando exclusivamente desde la calle, quise crear un reflejo de mi propia condición y punto de vista como una persona ajena al lugar, retratándolo simplemente de la manera que lo vi.

La colección de imágenes que acumule durante ese período de tiempo muestra diferentes aspectos de un lugar al cual sentí cerca y lejano al mismo tiempo. Mediante el uso de humor, ironía, descripción y hasta una composición metafórica en algunos casos; pinté una imagen, la mía propia, de un lugar al que traté de llamar hogar aún por un período corto de tiempo.

On Saturday April 9, 2011, Smith Brothers Coffee House of Port Washington will kick off their Gallery Night cycle for the spring season. Good opportunity to see local artists while enjoying a great place with great people (and good cappuccino!!!)

I am really happy to have been invited by them to do a small show of some of my paintings and photographs there while sharing the space with Dawn ( my talented wife) who will be showing (and selling) some of her handmade jewelry pieces and the also great pieces of jewelry created by Anna Kolbach which will be also for display and sale.
