Notes from the "Other Side"

The nice weather is back, reason why I was able to take a nice walk today photographing for my "Marina" project. As I got to Port, I saw many people walking where the new park is, so I push myself in and went all the way to see the place but also to be able to see Port's harbor from a different perspective, something that in the nine years living in the area I have not been able to do so since the park was closed to public and I do not have a boat. Later I found out by a police man that "no one" should be there", so I guess now I will wait until it is "officially" open to public.

Even then, the walk was worth it. Not only the place is beautiful and peaceful, full of birds and with the possibility of feeling that you are going deep into lake Michigan, more than if you do from the north side, but also to see the harbor from that angle brought more enthusiasm to my own photographing of the place. I have some nice shots in black and white that I hope turn out ok and for now just to keep it going.

For now I leave this digital shot I did while there. Maybe I will turn this one into another painting.

After four months "seeing in black and white" I was happy to take a break to sit and start working on a new painting. So far is going well, and despite I am not even half way of the work on the piece, it still feels good. Let's see how it goes.

Ideas of Beauty

Poster for the movie "What Remains, the Life and Work of Sally Mann" _
Directed by Steven Cantor.

This Wednesday will mark the beginning of

a program of visual arts related documentaries which I will be coordinating between the W. J. Niederkorn Library and Gallery 224 in Port Washington. For such occasion we will be showing on the community room at the library the documentary "What Remains: the Life and Work of Sally Mann", directed by Steven Cantor.

I am really happy about this program kicking off and hopefully seeing it to evolve into something bigger. Do not miss it. Program is scheduled to start at 6PM (that means I will hit PLAY at that time) and it will go until 7.20 with an after round table conversation for those who would like to stay and discuss about the movie.

If you have any questions, shoot me an e-mail and I will be glad to answer. Otherwise, I hope to see you there. Programs at the library are FREE. For more info visit:

Today was the opening reception of the PHOTOGRAPHY show at Gallery 224 where I am participating with my body of work "Preserved".

It was a pleasure to share my work there surrounded by friends and people, but also I am really proud of being sharing space with so many talented artists. Thanks to everybody who made the show possible, and to everybody that stopped by to show support.

The show will be on display until September. Check it out. (Visit Gallery 224 website for more info about hours)

Thank you Henri!

The below passage is something I read the other day on a interview done once to the great Henri Cartier Bresson around the 70s by Sheila Turner Seed:
"The greatest joy for me is geometry; that means a structure. You can’t go shooting for structure, for shapes, for patterns and all this, but it is a sensuous pleasure, an intellectual pleasure, at the same time to have everything in the right place. It’s a recognition of an order which is in front of you".
_ Henri Cartier Bresson on interview with Sheila Turner Seed. Extracted from a New York Times "Lens" section article.
It made my day and with that been said, I processed yesterday rolls #16 &17 from where these two below are from.

Days of Summer

Last night I was able to get in the darkroom and printed this five proofs that I was looking to do since last week and could not find time for it. Hopefully I can keep the good winds!
